NHR: The Avett Brothers are coming home

If you look at my blogger profile, you'll see 30 or so of the hundreds of musicians that I dig. I've seen a countless number of concerts in my young life and The Avett Brothers are by far my favorite live show experience.

I can't tell you how proud I am of these guys who recently were signed by the Columbia Records group, American Records. The band has been touring non-stop throughout the country and remains one of the hardest working groups in the business. Their new EP, The Second Gleam was released today and it is outstanding as usual.

As of Tuesday night, the show still wasn't sold out for this Saturday the 26th at the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday than to see my favorite band back in their home state at such an awesome venue (which just happens to be right down the street from the homestead).

Here's "Late in Life" and "Distraction #74" from a show in Tampa last December:

The winner's shot will be displayed on COI and you and a friend will be headed to see the Canes play the Minnesota Wild on this upcoming Thursday night courtesy of COI.

Thank you to all who have stopped by, commented or linked here in the past 12 months. See ya'll out at the games.
Update: Had some people ask, so if you are an out-of-towner and can't make it to Raleigh for Thursday's game, you're still welcome to submit for the contest and you'll get a TBD raincheck for tix.

Happy Birthday Cam Ward

Leap year baby Cam Ward turns the ripe old age of 24 today. Counting how many times his actual birthday has happened in his life time, he is officially 6 years old today. Oh, to be young again.

Doing The Birthday Dance

Today is the only time in my life that my age will coincide with my date of birth. Turning 26 on the 26th, I certainly feel no older than I did turning 25. Most importantly however, when I am turning 40 years old I will still feel young at heart. Yes I pay bills, work full-time, and have to deal with the same everday BS that we all do. But inside, I just want to go outside and play!

So that is what I'm going to do! I'll be in my favorite place in the world: Ashe County in the NC Blue Ridge mountains this weekend celebrating and floating down the river (pictured above). Peace!

(ps - My normal saying for my friends on their birthday is: "I hope your parents had as much fun making you as I have knowing you..." but I couldn't really wish that upon myself.)
